November Athlete of the Month
 

Congratulations to Anshika Singh for being our November Athlete of the Month.  Anshika is a junior at Smoky Hill High School and has started the college research process.  Right now she likes the University of Chicago and Georgetown University; as of today, she believes she wants to study business or law.

Anshika is a competitive tennis player, she’s ranked #2 in the state.  Currently she plays out of Lifetime Tennis in Centennial and will play for Smoky Hill in the spring.  In addition to competitive tennis, she plays golf but says it’s only for fun.  If she plays golf anything like tennis, we’re pretty sure she’s pretty good at that too.  

We asked Anshika how she found out about Team Speed and how long she’s worked with Sterling.  She said she’s been training with Sterling for a year or so.  About a month before a tennis tournament she realized in order to get better, she needed to improve her fitness and her strength.  It was through diligent research that Anshika and her family found Sterling and Team Speed.  Anshika likes that every workout with Sterling is designed for her and her sport of tennis; she says Sterling listens and pays attention to how Anshika is feeling.  Anshika is stronger and faster and believes this is due to all the hard work she has put in with Sterling at Team Speed.  

Great Job, Anshika!  Good luck on the tennis courts!

October Athlete of the Month
 

Congratulations to Mattea Morris for being our October Athlete of the Month.  Mattea is a 5th grader at Platte River Academy.  
In addition to loving sports, Mattea is a very artistic young lady. She takes piano lessons from her grandma, sings in the youth choir at church and enjoys arts & crafts and loves to read. Mattea currently plays on REAL Colorado’s U11 Olympico soccer team, but during the off-season, you can find Mattea on the basketball court and softball field.  We asked Mattea how Quincy and Team Speed have made a difference in Mattea’s training and here’s what she said.  “Quincy has the energy of the Energizer Bunny.  Her enthusiasm and encouragement helps make me feel like my training sessions are fun and challenging rather than physically and mentally draining.  When I’m out on the soccer field, I play with the same mentality, keeping it fun and challenging.  I use my physical and mental strengths to compete at my best.”
Finally, we asked her what she liked most about Team Speed and she responded, “Sterling and the Team Speed staff are very welcoming and create a positive environment in which to train to the best of my ability.  I feel like Team Speed pushes me enough and provides the right tools to challenge myself and feel good about myself. Team Speed is my home away from home for fitness and training!”

September Athlete of the Month
 


Congratulations to Caden Brester.  Caden is a 7th grader at Rocky Heights Middle School.  When Caden isn’t at school he enjoys football, scouts, biking, hiking, running and R/C cars. We asked Caden how Cody and Sterling's Team Speed have made a difference in his training, he responded, “Cody has helped me focus on what I’m working on, has increased my endurance, my stamina, my coordination and has helped me develop strength.”

Because of the physical and mental strength Caden gained through working with Cody at Sterling's Team Speed he was able to participate with Outward Bound. Outward Bound is the leading provider of experiential and outdoor education programs for youth and adults Caden’s adventure with Outward Bound was a 15-day experience where he hiked a total of 150 miles and camped along the way.  He peaked La Plata during a 24 hour challenge where he didn’t sleep and continued to hike through the middle of the night.  He was able to see the sunrise on the top of his first 14er. This experience was for personal survival skills, physical and emotional toughness, and gaining leadership skills, which was enhanced due to the training Caden had at Sterling's Team Speed.

Finally, we asked Caden what does he like most about Sterling's Team Speed?  He responded, “I can have a lot of fun at the same time working hard and doing my best to improve.  Everyone at Team Speed encourages me and makes me feel good about what I’m doing."

Great Job, Caden!  We can’t wait to hear about your next adventure!

Meet our July Athlete of the Month




























 
Congratulations to Jacqueline “Jax” Henry for being our July Athlete of the Month. Jax is going to be a junior at Cherry Creek High School this coming fall and has played soccer since the age of 4, a total of 12 years; she plays defensive outside-right back. Other than soccer, Jax also participates in other activities, including, lifeguarding this summer at her neighborhood pool.  Last year, she swam for her high school team; plans on running cross country this fall and play competitive soccer with the U18 Storm Select team. In addition, she’s a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys volunteering for Project Cute and Assistance League of Denver.

In mid-May 2015, Jax was practicing with her high school team for playoffs and she tore her ACL and meniscus, non-contact, after a quick change of direction. Over the next year, she rehabbed intensely so she could hopefully be physically stronger than she’s ever been. After a disappointing try at track because it was too painful to run, she knew she had to make a change and turned to Team Speed and started training with Sterling at the end of February. After 3 months, her physical therapist and Sterling decided it was time to return to soccer so she’d be able to play in the Real Cup Tournament over Memorial Day weekend. By Memorial Day, Jax was released to play 100% and got a lot of playing time during the Real Cup Tournament. During that weekend, Jax’s team went on to the championship game and won in PKs.

We asked Jax how has Sterling and Team Speed made a difference in her training, she responded, “Sterling and Team Speed have made all the difference for me. As soon as I started to work with Sterling, everything changed for the better. I improved and grew stronger, achieving my goal of returning to soccer at 100% in less than four months after my start with Sterling.” Jax feels Team Speed truly cares about
Finally, Jax is glad to be back and has high hopes and goals as she moves forward in soccer and her junior year in high school. Team Speed has the same high hopes for you, Jax!

Meet Quincy Brown

Quincy Brown, CSCS
Sport Performance Coach



Education: B.S. Exercise Science from University of Northern Colorado.

Certifications:  CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross.





 

Quincy has a strong background in fencing, rugby, and track. She was on the collegiate fencing team at the University of Northern Colorado for all four years of college, USA/Colorado under 18 Rugby team, and a state competitor for the 300 hurdles. Previously she worked as a sports performance intern in Greeley, CO where she trained many serious collegiate and elite high school athletes.

Quincy emphasizes speed, agility, power, strength, balance, and confidence. With these core essentials she is able to create elite athletes. These athletes are prepared for their sport practices and game days by learning the essential elements of their sports. In sync with this she helps to decrease injuries such as ACL and other knee injuries through a joint by joint approach. She believes that learning how to move will lead to an increase in performance and a decrease injury rate. Quincy believes the best ability is availability.

College Summer Training Program:
Team Speed and Footability have teamed up!

 
What:  This program is designed to be the perfect training solution for college athletes during their time away from school.  Our facility and coaching staff offer an environment at Team Speed that is unmatched by any other training facility in the South Metro Denver Area.  Footability will keep you connected with your technical speed, comfort and confidence on the ball!

Meet Matt Remaley
 
Born and raised in the Highlands Ranch area, Matt joins Sterling’s Team Speed staff as a highly energized, committed, and results-oriented personal trainer/coach. Matt has trained under Sterling’s direction since age 13.  Over these 10+ years with Sterling, Matt has been exposed and benefited from a wide variety of techniques, tools and knowledge that he ​incorporates in his trainings today.  As a youngster, Matt grew up playing many sports; but, excelled at the highest level in club baseball and soccer.  His ultimate passion is soccer which resulted in a powerful and successful soccer career.  Matt played his youth soccer with an elite local club and continued his NCAA Division I soccer as a ‘Bearcat’ at the University of Cincinnati.  Matt, as a high caliber soccer player and overall strong, conditioned athlete, focuses on not only developing an athlete physically; but mentally as well.  Matt also believes in making an impact in the athlete’s life inside the gym and also outside in their everyday lives.  He recognizes that fitness is the key to a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle.  Matt refers to one specific quote, stated by the great N.C. State  basketball coach Jim Valvano, that drives him through life and makes him the successful person, trainer and coach that he is today: “Don’t give up; don’t ever give up.” – Jimmy V.

Meet the Newest Members of Sterling's Team Speed

Certifications: 
CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist),

Meet Sam Peletier, CSCS
Sam grew up playing soccer, basketball and softball through high school. When she attended the University of Delaware, she quickly became hooked on playing one of the fastest growing sports of ultimate frisbee. Sam continues to play ultimate for an elite women's team based out of Denver called Molly Brown. Throughout her career, Sam has experience training middle school and high school athletes involved in a variety of sports and has coached High School girls soccer.  

Sam knows that natural talent and ability can only take someone so far. In order to get to the next level, it takes focus, dedication and hard work. She is here to push you to get better but also likes being creative to keep her athletes engaged and still having fun.

Certifications: 
Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
CPR/AED and First Aid certified through the American Red Cross.


 

Meet Evan Geist, CPT
Having trained as a client of Sterling’s since age 14, Evan has a strong background in functional strength and circuit style training. After playing football, basketball and baseball at Mullen High school, Collegiate Division 1 Rugby at CSU, and now semi-professionally in Denver, training to play sports at a high level is his specialty. Evan has training experience with all age groups and experience levels, having worked at multiple gyms while attending CSU and completing an internship focused on sport specific training for football players. Specializing in weight lifting and with an extensive Olympic lifting and kettle bell training background strength, power, and speed are the basis of his training style. 

Evan believes that consistency is the key to results not only in fitness and training, but in every day life as well. If you consistently put out hard work, positive attitude and train effectively you will reach your goals! Evan loves to include weights and an emphasis on power in his training regiments.

A Journey
with Herman 


Herman has had a lifelong struggle with his weight and has decided that this is the year to make a permanent change. He is allowing Team Speed to follow his year-long journey, through his own blog on our website, in hopes of helping others.  Thank you Herman for allowing us to follow you.  Now, let's meet Herman.

My name is Herman, I’m in my late 30’s and feel it every day.  I was always a chubby kid growing up. I was the definition of cleaning your plate at every meal, and the reason “Husky” pants needed to exist. I grew up in a very blue collar household with both parents working very hard to support my brother, sister and myself. From a very young age I found sports as a great outlet to get moving and stay active.  My father is from the Caribbean and soccer (futbol) is what he played and, I instantly followed in his footsteps.  Even though I was a very active and normal kid I still had the cute “chubby kid” fat and kept that “chub” physique even while getting more active playing soccer in high school and earning the opportunity to play in college.  I have hit a point that the “chub” is no longer cute, it is ugly and dangerous. Between crazy work and family schedules, I have resorted to eating anything and just about everything I can find, to get through the day. To try and level out my poor eating habits, I started working out.  I even got clearance from my doctor to work out harder than I have in the past.  I’ve learned that there is not an equal workout to match poor eating choices short of running from one food establishment to the next, and quite frankly, the way that I’ve been eating it would still be impossible.  Over the last 6 months, I have been working out 5+ days a week but not significantly changing my eating habits and thus very little physical changes have happened.  Overall I think I am in better shape but the reality is I have not lost a pound and more importantly I have not lost the “chub” that I desperately want and need to lose. So I am turning to the staff at Sterling’s Team Speed to help me find that fit and “chub-free” guy that I know is on the inside. Please follow this blog and join me on my journey, under the flab. Coming next week...the challenge of Thanksgiving!

Sterling's Complete Athletic Development (CAD)
Our most popular and comprehensive High School program vis structured in a small group setting and is ideal for off-season, pre-season, and in-season athletes.  Small groups allow us to provide more attention to each athlete's form and technique as well as allowing us to prescribe more complex and rigourous exercises in a safe environment.

Each 60 minute CAD session includes: 
  • 5 minutes of dynamic warm-up
  • 10 minutes of linear speed or multi-directional agility training (emphasis changes each day)
  • 30 minutes of strength, power, and core training utlizing plyometrics, weightlifting variations, and traditional barbell, dumbbell, and bodyweight strength exercises,
  • 10 minutes of anaerobic conditioning
  • Final 5 minutes of stretching and mobility work
CAD programs are offered for High School age groups, including
grades 9 and up.

Meet Jeff Cheever

Sterling's Team Speed would like to welcome
Jeff as the latest member of our training team! 
Jeff has a background in both soccer and cycling.  He played Division 1 college soccer at Coastal Carolina University for two years and semi-professional soccer for the Colorado Foxes in 2012.  Currently, Jeff is an elite mountain biker doing endurance and cross country events throughout the year.  He also coaches competitive youth soccer at Real Colorado Soccer Club and has experience working with athletes of all ages and sports.  Jeff is passionate about helping people of any age or ability achieve their goals whether it be sports related or general fitness.

Through Cody's experience as an athlete and coach at multiple levels, he believes in 5 player/person development goals of athletes (skills, speed, sense, strength, and mental).  Training all ages and abilities is important along with the ability to transfer athletic ability and good mental/personal health to their lives.  Cody loves to always enable an athlete to achieve their greatest potential by keeping a competitive and challenging environment.  He also believes that confusing the body and breaking habit is what provides the greatest results.

up at 6am to train before school every 
Monday and Wednesday. Sterling will change his
focus to in-season training with many
athletes heading into their High School
Sport Seasons. Training will shift toward

of luck as their Spring High School Sports 
get underway. Don't forget about our OPT 
(off period training program)
that we 
offer. Come in to
Team Speed during your off period to train
privately to ease the burden of afterschool
commitments. For those of you heading
off to college, this is a great way to start
your training for the fitness tests your
coaches are expecting you to pass. Better to
start now than in June!

Brooke is the newest member of our
Team Speed staff. You may know her 
from her involvement in the 
Highlands Ranch community.  Brooke aims
to understand her clients' goals and work 
together with them to accomplish
those achievements in an enjoyable
environment.  She is an expert at making
her workouts fun and appropriately 
challenging. By the way...she is hillarious!
Brooke is the mother of two pre-teens and
understands how necessary it is
to make time for yourself and your health
to create balance in your life.
